I’ve got it all hooked up, installed the software, and sent out a couple of SMSes successfully. Pretty much plug and play. The software is very well done. It has redundancy (more than one modem for simultaneous sending as well as backup) and network provider routing (sort messages by network and send them out from the modem of the same network to save cost. Pity we won’t have access to the number database so this is no good for us.)
Now all I need to do is to modify the data cable by sticking the power from a transformer into the right pins, plug them all in and test them out for a few more days, and they are then ready for deployment.
Still, much software to be written, for doing what I have in mind.
Update: the pin out of the connector. I was too quick to cut pin 2 to test. Data GND and power GND share the same pin. I am going to join data GND and power GND and hope that it would work and not blew the Phone from Hell.
More Update: this might be able to solve all the problems elegantly. It is however unclear as to whether I can plug both the data cable and the power cord into it at the same time.

Admit it, you are actually trying to blow it right back to where it came from, aren’t you?

Ridley wanted to blow the Alien species into outer space. Everybody else saw the Alien species as a bio-weapon and wanted to capture them. Trust me I am looking for a new owner worthy for the Phone from Hell, and I am going to make sure that it is serviceable.
