Fairwood

November 20th, 2003 · 3 Comments

I visited the Fairwood Fast Food chainstore at the end of the road from where we live for the first time since they changed into a new corporate look.

None of the chairs match the new corporate colour. I suppose this would have to wait until they are due for replacement. From the TV advert it looks like they will be going for benches, which is more flexible than moulded plastic chairs.

Fairwood has many merits, althou serving gourmet isn’t one of them, and I visit my neightbourhood Fairwood mainly because it is convenient. The place is relaxed, you can sit there for as long as you like, and now that they have switched over to 100% smoke free, which in my book is something worth supporting.

I think Fairwood have marketing problem before. A Fairwood located at the lower level of Times Square was closed half year ago and replaced Cafe de Coral. I can see a huge difference of the number of customers, almost double when run by CdC. So the stock price of CdC rise from $4.X during SARS to $6.X nowaday, highest $7.X.

Fairwood introduce many new ideas into the business in these months, steamed coffee, new decorated branch, to improve their image and attact ppl. But, I feel that CdC’s image and foundation is very solid, and will not replaced by other competitor in few years time.

Quality of food is their main difference. Fairwood couldn’t even make rice taste like rice.

James is quite right. Fairwood doesn’t serve gourmet is an understatement (or overstatement?). Their food for most of the time is barely edible. The freshly grounded coffee is an improvement but their tea is normally far too strong to the point of bitter.

It’s good to see people and corporates involving in self-improvement.
