The Fink Project puts a Debian package system on Mac OS X, allowing OS X users to install all kinds of Unix software easily. It makes life good.
The project needs more mirrors. There isn’t one in Asia. I benefit from the project, so I am tempted.
However, I only have a shared wimpy server, with limited bandwidth. The lowest class of mirror is the Rsync mirror, with an estimated 50-100KB/s sustained rate, which is a good 1/6 chunk of the thru-put of our shared server. This is likely to be a substantial drag on our limited resources.
I may come into possession of an old-ish P-III Dell BookPC-type computer shortly. It could do well in the coop rack.
