Now that it is clearer how the optional WiFi thingy works on the D2H, it seems that a WiFi base-station might come in handy:-
- slim, light, low powered, electronic device
- runs on rechargable batteries and power brick
- boots up instantly or at least quickly
- big hard disk, e.g. 60GB laptop HD
- ethernet port for connecting to LAN and/or ADSL modem
- high speed serial ports for connecting to ISDN
- WiFi, with socket for plugging in an external antenna
- anti-theft device, e.g. motion activated loud horn, Kensington lock
Stick this to one side of a big conference hall or trade show floor, put up an omni-directional antenna, and you can have a few photographers armed w/ D2Hs covering the event, offloading their photos to this device as the event rolls. If a suitable connection is available, staff at the office could look at the photos on the device and transfer them across, all done in real time. Neat.
