HSBC is a Negative Impact on Hong Kong Productivity

December 27th, 2003 · 1 Comment

I needed to desposit some money into a HSBC account on 24/12 in Central. The HSBC branch at the Exchange Square was small and packed. The one in China Building is flipping massive, but is only for f*cking Prestige Accounts. I waited in the queue at the HSBC Building for about 40 minutes. Only about 6 counters serving a queue of over 30 (and growing).

In the quest to cut cost and increase the bottom line for the shareholders, HSBC was sacrificing valued customers’ interests by wasting their time, time which could be better used than standing in the line of a queue. Corporation greed vs public interest.

The nearest HSBC to my office is a good 15min walk from my office.

Not only HSBC’s are like that, their affiliate HSB is also the same even with their ATM’s. BOC is not much better either but the next BOC branch 5min walk away is much better than the one closest to my office.
