Suggestions on Improving NetNewsWire

January 30th, 2004 · Comments Off

I was reading Ben Hammersley’s weblog. Brent Simmons is highly responsive to user comments. I am too cheap to pay US$40 for NetNewsWire, but am forever grateful for the Lite version, as it has served me well. I am therefore offering my HK$0.2.

Jasper Left-handed

January 30th, 2004 · 4 Comments

Not that it’s conclusive at his age, but Jasper appears to be left-handed. Probably got it from the Lady’s side of the family, ‘cos two of her brothers are left-handed, yet noone from my family is.
It means that he’ll need left-hand scissors. If he ever plays bowling he’ll need left-handed bowling balls. If he does [...]

Common Flu

January 29th, 2004 · 1 Comment

I have also just gotten a nasty common flu. High fever and bone ache. Went to see my doc and got a shot to take away the fever. Doc said the fever may return tomorrow.
We were planning to go to Macau to visit some friends on Friday. I doubt I can go. Bummer.

My TiBook battery deterioated to a stage that it would only hold about half an hour of charge. I would have had the machine for two years in April, so althou I am not a heavy battery user this particular battery has been with me for a good 20 months. I don’t think I should [...]

The Dawn of Intelligence

Email Attachments

January 23rd, 2004 · Comments Off

Just received an email from Netvigator informing that there is a counterfeit Netvigator billing notice email which carries a virus payload disguised as an attachment.
It might get to a point where the normal folks just stop opening attachments.
HKNet emails their bill out as an attached PDF file, which is safe to open, but folks may [...]

A Camera for Mum

January 20th, 2004 · Comments Off

Bought this for mum on Saturday from Broadways. Got an additional battery, and traded up the 128MB CF card to a 256MB. The shop threw in a pair of “Astro Boy” coffee mugs.
I have pretty much made up my mind before I walked into Broadways, as mum was quite specific about what camera she wanted. [...]

Doing What One Enjoys For No Money - What an Idea!!

January 16th, 2004 · 1 Comment

Wholala Organization on TVB’s Monday File.
In the programme, the chick was sobbing, for reasons I don’t understand. A few observations:-

The chick’s husband works in Shanghai and can only come home on weekends.
The couple is, like most “middle class” of that age, in negative equity. Their property is rented out, and she is staying w/ a [...]

Althou the website is not updated yet, according to today’s SCMP, HKDNR will start accepting 2LD .hk domain registrations on 26 January 2004. There is no rush yet, as they will only accept trade mark owners’ applications in the first few months, followed by existing domain name owners.

In Japan Folks Don’t Take Misplaced Property

January 9th, 2004 · Comments Off

it is true, but it has taken them at least a few hundred years to learn to do it.
I remember someone did a candid camera type of thing on a “misplaced” wallet in a busy street in Hong Kong. The result wasn’t pretty at all.
