Second Encounter w/ Hutchison 3G

February 29th, 2004 · Comments Off

Hutchison 3 was doing a roadshow in Tuen Mun Plaza today, showing their cheap 3G NEC handsets. I approached a sales lady, whose demo unit was out of juice.
Insincere and unprepared. I lost interest and walked off.

Ecstasy x 2

The latest extension for Mozilla/Firefox.

Note that I changed the background colour for div#feb from lawngreen to lightgreen. WYSIWYG CSS editing. I think not even the latest versions of Dreamweaver and GoLive! have this kind of interactivity for CSS.
This is so cool, it’s unreal.

I took Jasper to the family doctor to get his 2nd flu shot. (The doc told me that adults take 1 shot, infants take 2 half shots to lessen the side effects.) He has always been good w/ his shots, usually just screams while the needles go in, and goes back to his normal self [...]

Making 3G Profitable

February 28th, 2004 · Comments Off

3G won’t get to critical mass soon enough for the service providers to be profitable soon enough. As a matter of fact, most of the GSM operators in Hong Kong are losing money.
The service providers will have to subsidize handsets in the beginning to increase adoption rate. Subscription isn’t much more than GSM, and because [...]

Hellboy

February 28th, 2004 · Comments Off

The movie, and comics.
About ten years ago, attempts were made to introduce American comics into Hong Kong and published them in Chinese. Jade Comics (not controlled by Tony Wong, who was/had been in prison then) with much fanfare published a few X-Mens, while two smaller publishers published a couple of Lobo and Hellboy.
I had not [...]

First Brief Encounter w/ Hutchison 3G

February 28th, 2004 · 1 Comment

I passed Hutchison 3G’s sales centre in Hutchison House yesterday, and had a first peek at their offerings.
Two models, both from NEC, were on show. The cheap sub-HK$1K handset was flipping massive! It was in fact even bigger than my “Phone from Hell”. The more expensive models aren’t really much smaller, but then you wouldn’t [...]

Idiotic Script Writers

I was catching up with some soap drama last night. The female Police Inspector just had a baby, and went back to work when the baby was only one month old.
The thing is, women in Hong Kong are entitled to at least six weeks (too short in my opinion) of maternity leave. Most mothers these [...]

Internet & Social Movement

Most of the successful Internet businesses and entities are about building communities. Amazon, eBay, AOL are all prime examples.
Social software has recently been the hip stuff. One registers with one of these social websites, and introduces one’s own friends to join the same service. It works like a chain letter, and eventually a big [...]

Jade Kwan Live

February 21st, 2004 · 1 Comment

Got a couple of complimentary tickets, so the Lady and I went to see Jade Kwan live last night.
First let me get all the bad things out of the way first:-

She couldn’t dance.
The band was too loud and too overwhelming for Jade.
The sound engineer should be shot. Jade sounded muffed.
The visual effects (i.e. those videos [...]
