My friend Ah Leung emailed me about his new weblog on Blogger. I was somewhat puzzled by his choice. Being a member of our Coop, he can have his own MovableType or WordPress installation on mother if he asks.

It turns out that Blogger has recently relaunched, and is now much improved. Althou they would be happy to host your weblog, you could also host it somewhere else, as the new Blogger software can upload your weblog via ftp to your web space.

And the Blogger service is free. Pretty cool.

No immediate help from Lord Tin though…

Also, what’s their support for getting rid of spam comments? Without something like MT-Blacklist or the rumoured upcoming MT 3.0’s own spam control, a blogger’s daily tasks would entirely be killing spams.

    What’s Ah Leung’s URL anyway?

The new Blogger UI is arguably easier to use than MT. Since there is no ugly Perl script or PHP or database to install or setup, it is much easier to get started. It would work very well with one of those sh*tty hosting services CTLee is so fond of.

Since Blogger IS Google, comment spam control is easy. URLs in comment spams are penalized in the PageRank, so the more a spammer spams in Blogger comments, the lower those URLs will appear. This wipes out any incentive for comment spammers.
