No reason not to. In fact, I should have done it ages ago.
James reported mother being down yesterday. When I got home a few hours later it was all back to normal.
When a packet travels from one of our personal computers to mother, it passes thru at least three different parties’ equipment, and like 10 different network devices. If problem arises on any of these 10 devices then mother may appear to be down.
I could put in some sort of heart-beat system to monitor the health of mother, but there really are little point in doing it. It is supposed to be a low cost solution, and we simply don’t have the manpower to attend to any problems 24×7. The major factor being that, not considering human errors, mother has been rather reliable.
Considering the low cost and low maintenance, overall I am reasonably pleased with the system.
