Book Fair 2004

July 24th, 2004 · 1 Comment

I received some promo stuff from Longman about their special offers at the Book Fair. Jasper found it and wanted the Finding Nemo and Lion King Ladybird books.

I went on Friday and took advantage of a cheap after-6 ticket. It has been years since I last visited a Book Fair, and I nearly forgot why I stopped going: it was too packed to be comfortable.

The Finding Nemo book was sold out, but I managed to pick up a Lion King. Jasper and I are both quite disappointed.

I also got a book about cats for Jasper. He has the books about horses and mammals in the same series and he absolutely loves them.

I also picked up the Chinese/Taiwanes edition of Tippi Mon livre d’Afrique=. Jasper is absolutely facinated by the photos of Tippi making friends with elephants, a leopard, a lion and an ostrich. A very good read for kids. Highly recommended.

The French Consulate General was pushing Tin Tin, which I am sure have something to do with publication of the Chinese edition. We were reading Tin Tin when we were kids, and I wonder what have taken the Chinese edition so long? I also wonder why the native-French comic Asterix, which I used to prefer to Tin Tin, was nowhere to be found at the French Consulate General’s booth.

I absolutely did not enjoy the hugh crowd at the Book Fair, and doubt I’ll go again next year.

M and Alec went last Thursday at about 11:00am and stayed until 6:00pm with my sister and her 2 daughters. I couldn’t believe they could have stayed that long. They took a couple of knapsacks, and my sister took a wheeled suitcase! A “RedWhiteBlue” might be better suited my sister.

I don’t know what my sister bought but Alec bought a few books, a balsa wood model of a Baretta 92FS, and a blowup hammer. The mornings weren’t too crowded, they said, but I’d still prefer Amazon, PageOne, and the like.
