Jasper’s Toy Car

August 5th, 2004 · 1 Comment

Jasper loves cars. One of the side mirrors of his big 4WD was snapped off, tearing a small part of the door with it, creating some sharp edges, so I stopped him from playing it, pending my repair, which I feel guilty and admit that my repair has been pending for two weeks now.

Chances have it that a colleague at work came into possession of 20 big boxes of toys from a client. The secretaries all went for Hello Kitty dolls. I went for a toy American football, a 3” tall Woody figurine, and a Davey Driver, which is a special edition and comes with three cones and a stop sign (not shown).

The ball goes to Lily, and Woody and Davey go to Jasper. He loves Davey so much that the first night he had it he took it with him to bed (generally he doesn’t take his toys to bed) and woke up in the middle of the night and played with it.

When I got hold of Davey I didn’t think too much of it, and I had never heard of Chevron Cars before. A colleague then told me that her nephew in primary school and his mates are all crazy about them. Brilliantly executing branding I must say.

While Jasper already plays with his Duplos and I can’t wait to get him onto the Mindstorms, his peers will likely want to play with toys which we don’t know about, and have difficulty understanding why they are so attractive to kids of their ages. Generation gap indeed.
