Tom (market cap HK$6.88B) has switched from the GEM board to the HKEX main board, and has been running full page and front page ads in the papers for the last few days.
This morning’s ad in the papers however leaves a lot to be desired. The design is tasteless, and the finely designed tom logo just feels odd on the page. “NeiDi-lization” is the word that pops into my head. Yap, it’s not called mass market for nothing, so let’s all move down!
The bit about their “Internet services” really gets at me. Ringtones and wallpapers for dingy little mobile phones aren’t Internet services! And dare they suggest that professional fashion designers prefer fashion news as provided by tom to their own trade magazines to keep themselves up-to-date! Oh yeah, like folks don’t want to listen to songs on the radio for free or have their own music tastes, but are all dying to pay tom and their mobile phone operators by the minute to listen to the latest commercial crap.
Naive. No sincerity. Tasteless. CRAP.
