Macau

August 14th, 2004 · No Comments

Just got back from Macau a few hours ago. We left Zhong Shan on Friday morning and took a bus to Macau to attend some friends’ baby boy’s one month old banquet and visit some other friends.

Macau is indeed doing very well. Very difficult to get a taxi these days, and a Macau taxi licence now costs more than the Hong Kong counter part. A friend told us that in the next few years Macau will have a 100,000 shortage of workers in all tourism-related fields. I have also been told that the new Casino the Sands has adopted a take-anybody-keep-the-good-fire-everybody-else approach to recruiting, and it is actually paying rather well. The figure of only 1 in 3 staying on has been quoted.

I suppose it’s all the excitement, but in general Jasper has been misbehaving during the whole vacation. I reached the conclusion that it is not worth going on vacation w/ a two-years-old. It seems that next year we’ll be going to the Gold Coast (the one down the road from where we live, not the one in Australia!) for the family vacation.

It’ll probably take us a few days to fully recover from the chaos.
