The Lady didn’t like the Viewsonic 17” CRT. It doesn’t do 1280×1024 at a decent refreshing rate, and is nowhere as sharp as what the Lady is now used to, so we picked up the Philips on Sunday. It is actually slightly sharper than the old Topcon 17” LCD.
It is actually a well-designed product. In addition to the tilt up/down and shift up/down, the panel also rotates against the base. It has a pair of built-in speakers, with a headphone socket which has no problem driving my AKG. The Lady seems to be pleased with it.
When I called up the Topcon’s distributor (more like the brand owner) Utopia, it turns out that, on top of the one year on site warranty, they also offers 2nd and 3rd year free labour, so I took the LCD in for a check and quotation. The technician told me that with my LCD’s symptoms it should cost HK$200 to HK$700 to fix. Unlike f*cking Sony Ericsson, they charge no checking fee. I am still not optimistic about the longevity of my Topcon panel thou.
