Yeung Sum and the Democratic Party have screwed up badly, there is no question about it. With full support from two barristers they still failed to send any of their 2G party members into LegCo, and in fact managed to lose two seats. They could claim that they helped to send the two barristers into the LegCo but the two barristers were already popular enough in the first place. Their clumsy act of screaming “jeopardy!” before the election made people realize that supporting them is probably a waste of time. Unless the Democratic Party undergoes some drastic reform (e.g. Yeung Sum resigning from the post of Party Chairman), their marginalization and demise will only accelerate.
Losing Cyd Ho by 800 votes was sad but she took it very well, and her job as a District Council member will allow her to carry on with her work in the next three years although she would have to scale back her operation a bit. She will have a good chance returning in four year’s time.
Long Hair talks good, but not great, yet he already beats the majority of the LegCo members, which reflects the general low quality of our LegCo members. TCH stating “comfortable” with the election results proves yet again that he knows jack sh*t and won’t recognize the boney person with a scythe knocking on his own door. Maybe he didn’t care, as there were rumours of his retirement after 912, and maybe these rumours were true.
The last few elections (both LegCo and District Council) were virtually perfect. This round the ballot paper was gigantic, yet the ballot boxes were much smaller than what we used to have previously. Most folks would say that whoever made the decision to use smaller ballot boxes was sitting on his/her brain. The cynical me thinks it is a conspiracy, trying to chip away people’s faith and trust on the election system. In any case, all signs shows a society going downhill.

Elections may seemed to be the answer, but nothing is democratic when politicians are involved. Maybe even as far as human beings are involved.
