“They Seldom Read”

September 23rd, 2004 · No Comments

I was listening to To Kit last night. They were talking about the idiocy of the HKSAR Govt regarding the redevelopment of the Central Police Station and Victoria Prison, and were taking the p*ss out of the so-called 1973-vintage Chinese civil servants. To Kit said that he was having lunch with an ex-civil servant (whose name he did not name, but I guess it was probably Sir David Aker-Jones), and the ex-civil servant said that the number one weakness of the 73-vintage top civil servants nowadays is that they seldom read. To Kit then went back to his old analogue of those Chinese civil servants being no different to your Philippino maid: they are good at following orders, but are no good otherwise.

Starting from today, I am going to read a book and write a review of the book every week.
