The Nikon D70

November 29th, 2004 · Comments Off

Saw the Nikon D70 Kit at the local Fortress for under HK$9K. Very tempting. Defeated by temptation.

Headphone Meeting

November 29th, 2004 · Comments Off

Went to a meeting of headphone and music lovers this evening. I rather enjoyed it.
Got to audition a Walker PPA, a highly portable version of the PPA, and like it a lot.
Auditioned the AKG K-1000. SUPER SWEET. Listed at US$1,195, and an absolute bear to drive (i.e. expensive headphone amplifier required) this is something way [...]

Double the Joy

November 28th, 2004 · 2 Comments

Another ex-NPCer is expecting new family members in May 2005—-yes, fraternal (i.e. non-identical) twins. So far all ex-NPCers we know have had boys, so statistically it is going to be a pair of boys.
As some people consider it bad luck to talk about pregnancy at the early stage, so I am saying no more. Congratulation [...]

Mother System Software Upgrade/Update

November 28th, 2004 · Comments Off

Mother was running OpenBSD 3.3, which is now over two years old. Over the last couple of weeks I installed the latest shining OpenBSD 3.6 and all of the necessary software onto a HD, and on Saturday I swapped it into mother and migrated the data over to the new system.
I expected to spend only [...]

Those are the Days of Our Lives

November 28th, 2004 · Comments Off

Those were the days of our lives,
bad things in life were so few,
those days are all gone now
but one thing is true,
when I look,
and I find,
I still love you.

24/11 was the day when Freddie Mercury passed away, 13 years ago.

Jasper’s First Plant

November 25th, 2004 · Comments Off

Well it’s a couple of seeds at the moment, but if nature has its way, the seeds are going to germinate. Jasper is supposed to bring this back to school in a week’s time and share it with his classmates.

Firefox 1.0

November 9th, 2004 · Comments Off

Rejoice!
Demand is so high, mozilla.org is very slow at the moment. I have gotten the Win32 version from Bittorrent, and the GPG signature of the file appears to be in order and matches the one of a Mozilla developer.
A lot of the mirrors aren’t updated yet, so this is a real bummer for a lot [...]

OpenBSD 3.6

November 4th, 2004 · 2 Comments

OpenBSD 3.6 has been released. I purchase the official CD set on every other release and bought 3.5, so this round I needed to download it and create my own boot CD. This is actually relatively straightforward if one isn’t scared of the command line. Mind you, cdrecord the Unix command line CD burning software [...]

It’s So Bad It’s Funny

November 4th, 2004 · 2 Comments

A reader on BoingBoing said,

As a British citizen, I just can’t understand why. Does the British media unfairly portray Bush, or are more than half of American voters just fucking stupid?

Another term for Bush means that U.S. armed forces are going to be tied up in Iraq for a long time. The PLA will have [...]

Flu Shots

November 1st, 2004 · 2 Comments

This is the 2nd year I take flu shots. Before then for a couple of years I was getting nasty flus each year that knocked me out for a whole week. The flu shots did help a bit last year, as I was only knocked out for a few days. This year I got sick [...]
