This weblog is under attack of comment spammer(s) again. Among the normal viagra spams, there are a few hundred seemingly random spams, with random names, random email addresses and random urls (which don’t exist). These random spams don’t make sense, except to destroy the viability of the MovableType commenting system, and in effect also destroys [...]

The Least of TCH’s Problems
December 21st, 2004 · 1 Comment
TCH was complaining about behind-the-scene conspirators against the HKSAR Govt’s plan to float the Link.
The way I see it, those few conspirators TCH was talking about was the least of his problems. His problems are much much bigger. Think 6M.
His plan to merge KCR and MTR may not be easy. MTR is a world-class corporation, [...]

Effective spam control teaser.
It wouldn’t work for the visually impaired. AFAIK I don’t have any visually impaired readers. If I do gain any I could always give them an account or something. I know the author of this plugin is planning to implement a listen-then-type-in kind of bot challenger.

Dovecot

Dovecot 0.99.10.8 installed from the ports collection on mother running OpenBSD 3.6 didn’t work for some of the Coop members, with their indices corrupting and imap processes hanging and stopping further imap processes from running properly.
Updated to the latest stable release 0.99.12.1 manually. The login processes kept dying. It just didn’t work.
Tried the latest 1.0 [...]

Discussion on Slashdot.
The switch to WordPress is inevitable. James expressed his concern about the lack of spam control tools on this platform. In Slashdot’s discussion WPBlacklist and AuthImage were mentioned. Problems solved.

Disclosure of Interest: My old man applied for one lot, worth around HK$5K.
David vs. Goliath. Little old lady vs. HKSAR Govt.
With TCH’s Touch of Shit™, it doesn’t matter how many civil servants, solicitors, merchant bankers, etc. are thrown in, things just crumble.
All the accusations such as “against public interest”, “abuse of legal system” etc. [...]

Fsck You Blog Comment Spammers!
December 16th, 2004 · 1 Comment
Just been spammed about 500 blog comments. It’s bloody annoying.
MTv2 (even w/ the excellent MTBlacklist plugin) is totally helpless with such blog comment spam attacks. There is a very strong incentive right now for me to migrate over to WordPress, which has much better comment control and management.
Might switch over the weekend.

What to do w/ a crappy laptop computer w/ a dying HD (it seems that manufactuers no longer make sub-10GB laptop HDes, and the cheapest laptop HDes are close to HK$1K, which I am not willing to put into this old computer) and not too much RAM?
Grab the Ubuntu Linux Live CD ISO file, burn [...]

Tat Ming Pair Live 2004
December 13th, 2004 · 2 Comments
Went to the last show of this series last night. Totally AWESOME.
Anthony sounded much better last night than last time. I was told that he had a bad cough then.
Tat can’t sing, but we still love it when he sings. He’s as funny as ever.
The atmosphere was even better than Beyond’s last concert. The audiences [...]

Photo Gallery
December 8th, 2004 · 3 Comments
I have been searching for a web gallery solution forever. None of the existing ones seem to suit my needs 100%:-
Easy to setup galleries and folders
Good viewer UI
Handles meta data (EXIF) sensibly
Looks good
Gallery is popular, but IMHO fails miserably in 2 and 4 above. The viewer UI is just plain awful.
Some thoughtless attempts at building [...]

Jasper is under three, so he still gets in free. Althou the OP is considered by some to be old and having lost its charm, and the tickets (we got group tickets) aren’t exactly cheap, I think it’s still a great place for a grand day out, and the ticket [...]

At some angles, this Santa looks like Donkey Kong.

Smartone 3G
December 3rd, 2004 · Comments Off
There is a full page ad in the HKEJ this morning, promoting Smartone 3G’s data service. Not much information, no price, no nothing, except a phone number to call.
So I checked it out on their website. The price, which I dare not repeat here. Let’s say, I would really hate to be in the 3G [...]
