Ken was my ex-business partner in the dot com and the dot bomb days. Haven’t spoken to him since early 2003.
A couple of years back he decided to pack everything up w/o telling anyone and moved to Zhuhai, so our parting was not entirely on excellent terms. I didn’t like the way he handled [...]

Mainland Chinese Bookshops
January 30th, 2005 · 3 Comments
I generally avoid going to Mongkok as much as I can. It’s just too crowded.
The Lady needed some books on Chinese language for her study. We were planning to go to the Book City in Shenzhen to look for them, but upon my old man’s recommendation we checked out Mongkok City Centre (right opposite to [...]

As in Not In My Backyard.
The new Immigrations Department Complex opposite the Cafeteria Bay will contain a detention centre, to replace the Victoria Detention Centre in Central. It will mainly house illegal immigrants, most of them young and good looking women.
The local elected District Council member called for a meeting a few weeks ago. I [...]

Region-code HP Printer Cartridges
January 21st, 2005 · 3 Comments
As reported here and discussed here.
We have a cheap HP 3-in-1. The photocopier side is okay, and colour photocopying is convenient. The software is however crap, so the scanner side isn’t really as useful as it could be. We also got weary of the printer side: the colour cartridge that came with the printer didn’t [...]

Silly Change of Name
January 21st, 2005 · 1 Comment
For some strange reasons, name changes of cities all tend to get worse. Quoting the Wikipedia on the city of Seoul, captial of the Republic of Korea:-
For people who use the Chinese language, the city has been known as 漢城 (read as Hancheng in Chinese, Hanseong in Korean). However, after months of discussion and debate, [...]

Boinx Mouseposé
An essential for everyone doing demos at tradeshows, presentations, trainings or those individuals with huge and high resolution displays. Mouseposé dims the screen and puts a spotlight on the area around the mouse pointer, easily guiding the audiences attention or to quickly locate the mouse pointer.

The cover story in today’s HKET ITTimes is Education via the Internet. There is an article on the RTHK eTVonline website, claiming 1.5M visits per day. However, I find some of their practices strange. I paraphrase Ms Chan, the Website Manager, from the article:-
All the programmes used to be available for download for free, but [...]

La Casino

Dinner w/ the Lady and Jasper at La Casino, a very nice restaurant near the Pearl Island roundabout on Castle Peak Road, not too far from where we live. The place was less than half full, and very nice. The waiters were attentive but not overwhelming. Food was quite okay. Will definitely go again.

Apple has been busy, and it is now major pay off time.

The other day I picked up a copy of the GTD book from the Dimocks at IFC. I tried to buy a cheap copy from YesAsia but gave up with the torture disguised as a sign up process.
