News= about the Hong Kong movie industry sending warning letters to BT users.
It doesn’t appear from the news that the court was involved. Thanks to their total lack of respect for their users’ privacy, these ISPs just handed over personal details of their users. CRAP.
Update (29/4): According to SCMP today, the Hong Kong movie industry [...]

The Roman Catholic Church is not a pop culture. The Pope as the head of the Church must stand on and defend the moral high ground.

The Hong Kong Economic Journal

I have been having this newspaper delivered to my doorstep for nearly a year now. An intellectual paper, so despite being about 1/3 to 1/4 of the thickness of the tabloids, it actually takes longer to read. I admit that I don’t finish mine all the time.
These two new columns came on a few weeks [...]

via Software Update. Normally I wait a few days and let others report any glitches, but this round there seems to be substantial updates to Safari, so I jumped right in.
The stock ssh no longer works, giving Segmentation fault. Bad news. Fortunately I have fink installed, so I did a sudo fink install openssh, and [...]

China vs Japan
April 17th, 2005 · 5 Comments
Whenever someone screams “patriotism!”, something bad always happens. When the government does it, it is almost certain a diversion of the people’s attention from more important issues. Last time GWB did it, his fellow countrymen lost their lives, freedom and liberty, and innocent people thousands of kilometers away from his own soil also lost their [...]

Nokia 3230
April 16th, 2005 · 1 Comment
The new Nokia 3230 is in stock. The form factor is highly agreeable. At around HK$3,100 it is not too expensive. Having just realized that I bought my T68i back in (end of) 2002, my conscious is clear for getting a new phone.
The only problem is, at this point in time, the 3230 is not [...]

Forbidden Knowledge

I have become more interested in narcotic drugs in the last few years. Being a law-abiding citizen living modestly, indulgence would be impractical, but knowledge on this topic would serve as pornography for the mind (and I always like good porn!). Porn, indeed, as such information is generally hard to come by and often irrelevant, [...]

The TextDrive people survived a Slashdot, and switched to lighttpd as the web server while taking it.
I have been playing w/ lighttpd and php-Fastcgi for the last few days on my home server/development machine, and the initial impression is very good. It seems to do everything I am using Apache 1.3 for on mother, so [...]

Triple-O vs McDonalds
April 6th, 2005 · 7 Comments
A new Triple-O (Canadian burger restaurant I wrote about before) opened at the Exchange Square right opposite to the IFC. I gave it another go last week.
At the T-O, one pays for the food, grabs a receipt, and waits for the receipt number to be announced, then goes up to the counter to collect [...]

We went to see this movie yesterday afternoon.
Very strong production. Extremely nicely done. Character definition has always been Hayao Miyazaki’s strong point. Unfortunately, a bit weak on the story.

Ken has so many of these stories to tell, it’s almost tragic. One has to wonder whether (1) he is just unlucky or (2) the world is full of morons.
There is no question that Ken knows his stuff when it comes to print production. He might lack the communication skill in conveying his technological advantages [...]
