The PCCW technician never showed up, nor did he call during the appointed hours. So I have had no reliable Internet BB access for 2 days. Crap. I’d have to call HKNet first thing tomorrow morning.
Bought an LG DVD writer to replace my dying CD writer. The SuperDrive combo drive in the TiBook is fine, but kinda slow. All these +R/-R business is highly confusing: apart from getting the right driver one needs the right media as well. I also bought a spindle of 50 DVD+Rs, but just realized that I should have bought DVD-Rs instead ‘cos the latter is far more compatible w/ DVD players and should at least be more useful. DVD+Rs are probably better for data backup, but then I don’t think cheap DVD media is of archival standard and I certainly won’t be relying on this spindle of discs for my backup.

I also bought +R and some +RW. I think only the older DVD players would not support +R but I have yet to burn any DVD formatted disc to try out on a player, only DVD data for storage.

I’ll need to get some DVD-RAM media. Supposed to have a minumum life of 30 years.

Nothing last in any digital format. Almost none of Kodak Gold individually packed CD-ROM that I have stored photos on still works today. It is better to have at least 2 copies of everything and recopying them onto new discs every 2-3 years.

If your DVD writer support bit-setting, you can burn a DVD+ disc to DVD- format, I was told.
My DVD writer only support DVD+, but I can burn DVD- disc for DVD machines using bit-setting. I was told.
Never tried thou.
BTW, my Kodak Gold CDs are still working. None dead, yet. Perhaps Jame’s home has an exceptional hi-shine of the cosmic ray… etc etc.
