It is not an isolated site. It is right in the middle of the Guangzhou city (which is over 2,000 years old). The palace was burnt to the ground by the army of the Han Dynasty according to the official history, and the excavation site shows that the ancient building was indeed destroyed by fire.

Last weekend I went in a group of eight led by Prof Tang to Guangzhou and visited the Nanyue Palace Museum and the Tomb Museum. Excellent trip.
