While the speed of sound remains relatively constant at about 340m/s, bullets are now cased in their own shell rather than being just a pallet in front of some loose gunpowder …
We are talking about the 1930s. The S&W Model 10 was introduced in 1899 and the Colt Detective’s Special was introduced in 1927 (both models are still in active service in the HKP and many other police/military organizations in the world). Not to mention the M1911 (1890s) and the Luger (1900). I didn’t realize that these “modern” handguns have been around and in use for so long.
