I am still reading this great book, The Rise and Fall of the Third Chimpanzee by Jared Diamond. In chapter 6, Diamond argued that sexual selection of our ancestors has a very notable effect on how we look, and we “learn” our sexual preference from our young age. The male would tend to prefer someone who looks like his mother and female siblings.
Seeing that we now have a whole generation of folks who were looked after by their Philipino maids when they were grew up and do not have many siblings, my guess is that these young men would prefer ladies with a darker complexion. We should therefore see the general complexion of the Hong Kong population to become darker.

Don’t know ‘bout others, but I sure don’t resemblant the maid that looked after me for 6 years before I was 10 years of age, nor the one for 7 years before I moved to Canada when I was 15. Could be my own ‘tude toward them though; normally it was alright but at times I didn’t get along with them.

It’s not about the kid growing up to look like whoever takes care of him or her. It’s about the kid growing up to be attracted to someone who looks like his/her parents, siblings or someone who lived with him/her. Diamond pointed out that this is not the overwhelming factor in someone’s choice of a mate, but is statistically significant.

Well, in that case, M’s most certainly look nothing like them either though, nor does she reminds me of mom in anyway. But, that’s just me.
