Excellent WordPress plug-in. This closes commenting for older posts, so spammers would have a smaller number of posts to inject their crap. I’ll see how it works out.
Update (3/1): Seems to work very well.

Pathetic Blog Spammers
December 30th, 2007 · Comments Off
This minor WordPress blog is being hit by spammer(s) in the last few days. A lot of these spams have been caught by the excellent Akismet service, but quite a few actually came thru, which was easily dealt with by the very smooth WordPress UI.
In this age of clever spam filters and coordinated spam detection [...]

Wii Fit

Just bought one from a local shop for HK$790. Yeah I know I am paying a premium, but this is about half the premium the local Toys ‘R Us wants.
The Wii Balance Board is simply brilliant application of simple technology, and the software is well done. Nintendo is going to make billions on this. For [...]

The Lady needs a laptop computer for her study during the upcoming holiday, so we went window shopping yesterday at Wanchai Computer Centre at Southorn. We looked at the Lenovo Thinkpad X61. The shops there sell a higher model than the one PCCW and Broadway are selling for just under HK$10K. For HK$1K more you get [...]

Karaoke Advertisements
December 16th, 2007 · Comments Off
It has been a long time since I last went to Karaoke. It was the firms’ Christmas party on Friday, and two of the partners’ treat after the party.
Most annoying thing was, between every few songs an advert is played, which can’t be skipped or fastforwarded. We were stuck there watching some Sony advert for [...]

Prof Faure’s book on the sinofication of the Guangdong province since the Ming Dynasty. All the big Guangdong clans claim that they were originally of the gentry class from the North, which of course is a load of bull. Via 船山筆記.
Update (31/12): I ordered from Amazon on 13/12 (US time), and received it on 28/12. [...]

MT4 has been released under GPL, so I played with it for a bit last night. Except for a very very brief period of time, there has always been a free (beer) and somewhat limited but very usable for single blogger version of MT. Now GPLed MT4 is fully functional multi-user multi-blog.
MT has a few [...]

CUHK Graduation Ceremony
December 10th, 2007 · Comments Off
I took the Friday off to attend my graduation ceremony.
CUHK graduates actually have two grad ceremonies to go to. The big one held by the university where they have the Chancellor and all the big wigs (on Thru) where only the PhDs get to walk up the stage, and the smaller one held by the [...]

“Universities via PCCW”

I have just realized that PCCW has a special deal w/ the 8 universities re: their extensive Wifi network. Any staff or student would get free access. Since I am an associates student of the CUHK Faculty of Arts, it’s just a matter of signing up (which took a couple of minutes), althou the sign-up [...]

Big chain toy store has just opened in Tuen Mun. Not sure this is good or bad news. Mind you, we got a child booster seat (for car) and a trampoline all at reasonable prices from their Tsing Yi shop.
