Notes on Using my Sony CX7 on a Field Trip

June 3rd, 2008 · No Comments

  1. Light and small.
  2. Excellent movie image quality. Reasonable (to my own standard) low-light movie image quality. Good photo image quality.
  3. Reasonable audio quality. I have yet to scrutinze the audio quality given by the BT wireless microphone. Next time may be I’ll bring along my Zoom H2 to pick up some decent sound during meetings and presentations.
  4. The 2 stock batteries are not enough for one full day of use. I’ll at least need one FH100.
  5. Transfer of 8GB of data onto the Databank takes ~40 minutes. My Databank only has enough juice (if fully charged) to do it twice. I didn’t bring the charger for my Databank for this trip, filled the 8GB on the 2nd day, and had to record SD video on the 4GB cards from there on.
  6. Got an 8GB plus 2 4GB cards. Practically I’d need at least another 8GB card. Nope, the camcorder takes those oddball Sony cards, and 16GB cards are not yet available.
  7. Ideally I’d need one more Databank for data redundancy.
  8. SD video may be quite adequate for my use. I’ll look at the video clips some more and decide.
  9. A desktop tripod or a beanbag would come in very handy.
  10. Might need a slightly bigger carrying case, to carry the BT microphone set plus other bits and accessories. A small Billingham maybe?
  11. The camcorders with a built-in hard disk may make a lot of sense. Backing up that hard disk on the road is going to be a total pain thou, as one would need a computer to read the hard disk.
  12. How do I turn off the flash?
