The Lady expressed interested in a dual-head computer, so last weekend I bought an ATi 3850 video card (the newer current-technology 4850 was also available, but at a little over 50% more expensive) from a local shop, installed it and added a spare 19” LCD panel to the gig. I’ve also switched over to DVI (the cheapo Intel desktop motherboard only has VGA out) on both monitors so the image quality is better. The Lady has not had the chance to use the gig yet but I look forward to her being mightly impressed.
I spent a few hours working on a desktop publishing project, using Scribus, MS Word, Picasa and GIMP. Dual 19” monitors are no doubt nicer than a single 19” monitor, but I think I would prefer a single 30” panel.
Not to mention that with a modern 3D-accelerated video card I can now play all the latest games.
