Jasper has been going to swimming lessons every week since summer 2007. It is one of those “Little Infant Dolphins” classes so the coaches don’t push the kids very hard. I would like Jasper to be able to do a bit of school-level swim competition when he gets older, but it has not been my intention to push him at this stage. We also don’t really know how good/bad he is, especially when we go to the pool together we do it for fun, playing with our big water cannons and chatting w/ our neighbours, rather than doing PT.
I signed Jasper up last week for a swimming test. There are many different levels, from grab a board and kick 10m to swim 1000m. I thought Jasper could probably do 15m freestyle but wanted it to be a little bit of challenge, so I signed him up for the 25m test. It turned out that Jasper didn’t know whether he could do it or not, as he’d never swam so far a distance.
We were all quite nervous during the test, but from the movie you could see Jasper had no problem whatsoever (well, except it wasn’t 100% perfect freestyle, as he stuck his head out of the water a couple of times to breath) and I thought his form was much better than some of the fellow swimmers. He passed.
BTW the swimmers in the yellow swimming caps are in the “Little (sans Infant) Dolphins” and they are at least a year older than Jasper.
