My iPod is with an authorized service provider for repair. So I am borrowing the Lady’s iPod Shuffle. It sounds surprisingly good. As good as my iPod.
The iPod uses a 3.7V internal rechargable battery, and I would imagine the iPod Shuffle to be using a battery of similar voltage.
The thing is, headphones and earphones work [...]

My iPod
September 1st, 2005 · Comments Off
appears to be busted. A reset didn’t help, but gave me the unhappy iPod.
Update (2/9): Took my iPod to the Apple authorized service provider at Times Square in Causeway Bay. Waited for just over half an hour to be served. The chick said it’d probably be two weeks. Moral of the story: get your Apple [...]

Ironman Baby Stroller
June 18th, 2005 · 2 Comments
My colleague Steven bought this from Ebay for US$300 for his baby Maddi (mother is yank), so they could jog together in a few months, when Maddi is old enough. The shipping was around US$70, but only to Chek Lap Kok Airport, so he had to go pick it up from there.
Nice bit of equipment [...]

Tat Ming Pair Live 2004
December 13th, 2004 · 2 Comments
Went to the last show of this series last night. Totally AWESOME.
Anthony sounded much better last night than last time. I was told that he had a bad cough then.
Tat can’t sing, but we still love it when he sings. He’s as funny as ever.
The atmosphere was even better than Beyond’s last concert. The audiences [...]

Headphone Meeting
November 29th, 2004 · Comments Off
Went to a meeting of headphone and music lovers this evening. I rather enjoyed it.
Got to audition a Walker PPA, a highly portable version of the PPA, and like it a lot.
Auditioned the AKG K-1000. SUPER SWEET. Listed at US$1,195, and an absolute bear to drive (i.e. expensive headphone amplifier required) this is something way [...]

Sam Hui Keep on Smiling

I enjoyed it last night, but I think Sam enjoyed it much more than his audiences and fans.
Sam said to one of the audiences:-
How old are you? 15? Then how come you know me?

PPA Headphone Amplifier PCB
September 30th, 2004 · Comments Off
The PPA is probably the best DIY headphone amplifier at this point in time. I ordered the PCB from Tangentsoft, and it took 8 days to arrive by post.
Time to start getting all the components. Looking at the PCB, it seems I’ll also need a smaller soldering iron tip.

The Voice of Lily Chan
September 13th, 2004 · Comments Off
Hifi recording from Mainland China. Some reviewers complained about a lack of emotion, but still an excellent voice nonetheless.
My only complaint is that the recording picked up the noise of the piano pedal.
This is supposed to be a better album music-wise. Maybe next time.

Jade Kwan Live
February 21st, 2004 · 1 Comment
Got a couple of complimentary tickets, so the Lady and I went to see Jade Kwan live last night.
First let me get all the bad things out of the way first:-
She couldn’t dance.
The band was too loud and too overwhelming for Jade.
The sound engineer should be shot. Jade sounded muffed.
The visual effects (i.e. those videos [...]
